Failed Reformat Troubleshooting

The Sync Module 2 can only store files on a USB drive formatted as:

  • ExFAT
  • FAT32 (this format stores a maximum of 16,383 clips per day)
  • FAT

Examples of unsupported formats:

  • HFS+
  • EXT 2, 3, and 4
  • NTFS
  • APFS
  • MAC OS Extended

If a drive with an unsupported format is inserted, the "Format USB device?" Popup is displayed.

Click FORMAT to format the first 256 GB of storage as ExFAT.

Click CANCEL to put the USB port in standby mode then insert a drive in a supported format.

If you choose to have the sync module format the drive, the server will first check the OS version of your sync module. An update may be necessary to complete the format process.

When the "Format USB device?" dialog appears, you have the following options:

  1. Click FORMAT and leave the drive inserted. The firmware update and/or drive formatting completes. The maximum expected time is 24 hours.
  2. Click CANCEL, then remove the drive from the Sync Module 2 and insert another with a compatible format.
  3. Click CANCEL, then remove your drive from the Sync Module 2 and use a computer to reformat it to ExFAT. If that option is not available, you can use FAT32, or FAT.
