How To Disable the Recording LED On Your Camera

Blink cameras have a blue Status LED that indicates when the camera is recording motion or accessing a live view. The option to disable this LED varies depending on the camera model.

Outdoor 4, Indoor and Outdoor (3rd Gen)

For Outdoor 4, Indoor and Outdoor (3rd Gen) cameras, you can adjust the Status LED in the Blink app under Device Settings > General Settings > Status LED. Learn more about device settings.

The Status LED can be set to:

  • Always Off: The Status LED is off at all times.
  • When Recording: The Status LED turns solid blue when the camera is recording or accessing a live view.

Mini, Mini 2, and Wired Floodlight Camera

For Mini, Mini 2, and Wired Floodlight Camera, you can adjust the Status LED in the Blink app under Device Settings > General Settings > Status LED. Learn more about device settings.

The Status LED can be set to:

  • Always On: The Status LED is solid green at all times and shows both solid green and solid blue LEDs when recording or accessing a live view.
  • Always Off: The Status LED is off at all times.
  • When Recording: The Status LED turns solid blue when the camera is recording or accessing a live view.

Video Doorbell

For the Video Doorbell, you can adjust the Button LED in the Blink app under Device Settings > General Settings > Button LED. Learn more about device settings.

The Button LED can be set to:

  • Always On (Wired only): The Button LED is solid blue at all times.
  • Off when Recording: The Button LED is off at all times.
  • When Recording: The Button LED turns solid blue when the doorbell is recording or accessing a live view.

XT and XT2

XT and XT2 cameras have a hardware switch inside the battery compartment that controls the Status LED.

To disable the Status LED on XT and XT2 cameras:

  1. Remove the back cover of the camera. Learn how to remove the back cover.
  2. Locate the REC. LED switch next to the camera’s serial number.
  3. Using tweezers or a similar tool, slide the switch to the OFF position (toward the top of the camera).

Indoor (1st Gen)

The Indoor (1st Gen) camera does not have a setting to control the Status LED.
