Getting started
To complete the installation, you will need the included hardware from the accessory bag, which contains mounting screws and wall anchors. For power tools, you'll need an electric drill along with two drill bits: a 3/32-inch (2.375 mm) bit for screws and a 7/32-inch (5.41 mm) bit for wall anchors. Additionally, you'll require basic tools, including a Phillips-head screwdriver and adhesive tape for securing the paper template provided in your package.
Before you proceed with the installation and mounting process, review the following:
-
Ensure your doorbell is set up.
- Before you can install and mount your doorbell, you must complete the setup process. For assistance, visit Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) Setup Guide.
-
Determine how your doorbell will be installed.
- Wired installation: Offers supplemental power supply, connection to your in home mechanical or digital chime, and extended battery life.
- Non-wired installation: Allows your doorbell to operate wire-free and rely solely on battery power.
-
Prepare your mounting surface.
- Identify your preferred mounting location.
- Clean the mounting surface thoroughly to ensure proper adhesion.
- Locate the paper template in your doorbell package. Save the attached key for future doorbell removal.
Installing and mounting your doorbell
The Video Doorbell's camera points straight out from the included mount. For installation on uneven or small surfaces, you should only use the top and middle mounting holes. When using all three mounting holes, be careful not to over-tighten the middle screw. While a gap between the back plate and doorbell won't affect performance, you can try slightly loosening the middle screw to eliminate any gaps that may appear.
If the included mount doesn't provide the desired viewing angle, consider two alternative mounts (sold separately) that offer additional adjustment options:
- Corner Mount: If you need to adjust the horizontal angle, the mount offers a 25° tilt to the left or right.
- Wedge Mount: If you need to adjust the vertical angle, the mount provides a 5° vertical tilt, allowing you to tilt the camera slightly up or down.
These mounting accessories can help you optimize the camera's field of view for your specific installation location. Choose the appropriate mount based on whether you need to adjust the vertical or horizontal angle of your doorbell camera.
For optimal installation, below you'll find step-by-step instructions for each mounting option:
Wired installation
The Video Doorbell requires a power supply between 8 - 24 volts, AC at 50 - 60Hz, and 40VA maximum. Ensure the voltage coming from the transformer matches the voltage of the chime. For example, a 16V chime should be wired to a 16V transformer. To locate your transformer, check near the main electrical panel or inside the doorbell chime housing. The voltage and VA ratings are typically printed on the transformer's label.
