You can improve the picture quality of your Blink cameras by adjusting the video settings to Best in your app and ensuring they’re within range of your Wi-Fi router. The Camera to Wi-Fi signal strength plays an important part in how your video quality is rendered, since that data is downloaded directly from the Blink servers to the camera. Camera to Sync Module signal strength has no effect on video quality; however, you should have 3 bars of strength to keep cameras online.
In addition to checking your video settings and signal strengths, camera positioning is also important since environmental conditions, such as lighting and glare, can affect your video quality.
When the signal strength between your camera and router isn’t adequate, you may experience the following:
- Delays in accessing live views or inability to do so.
- Motion detection clips aren’t recorded.
- Motion clip screens aren’t fully viewable, with half displayed as solid grey.
- The lower half of video clips is entirely pixelated.
Your Wi-Fi router may also have settings to optimise video streaming. If your router supports Quality of Service (QoS) or traffic shaping, make certain those settings are optimised for streaming video. Additionally, some routers have implemented WMM (Wi-Fi Multimedia) as a standard, designed to improve video over Wi-Fi networks.
Note: We don’t recommend using a third-party mounting option. However, if you use a non-Blink brand mount with an Outdoor or Indoor (3rd Gen) camera, ensure the IR sensor isn’t blocked. The night vision infrared LED is located on the front of the camera in the lower left. If this area is covered, the camera’s Night Vision is limited and nighttime images will appear dark or blurry.
