Sometimes you may experience the following errors when signing into the Blink app, adding devices to a system or arming your system.
- HTTP 406
- Unable to sign into Blink at this time
- Unauthorised access
This usually means your VPN (virtual private network) setting is turned on in your mobile device. Turning off the VPN settings usually fixes this problem. If it doesn’t, you may need to delete your VPN program so it won’t run in the background.
iOS Devices
Turn off your VPN
On iOS devices, the VPN can be turned off easily from the main Settings screen. If the VPN setting is on, tap the toggle to turn it off.
Delete the VPN
If you need to delete your VPN connection, go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management. Tap the information icon next to the VPN you want to delete and follow the app instructions to delete the VPN. Additionally, you can also turn off VPN here next to Status.
Once the VPN has been turned off or removed on your mobile device, restart your Blink app to verify that your issue has been resolved.
Android Devices

Once the VPN has been disabled or removed on your mobile device, restart your Blink app to verify your issue has been resolved.
You may see an invalid certificate warning or an SSL error during Account Verification. This also can appear as an HTTP 403 or 406 error.
Network Request failed: invalid certificate
- Common causes:
- Firewall settings - switch to a different Wi-Fi or try mobile data
- Active VPN - look for a Profile in the device settings
- Public Wi-Fi with a paywall
- Work Phone - may have network limitations imposed by IT
Solution
Network traffic from the mobile device is being interfered with.
If there is no VPN in use, try a different Wi-Fi network or switch to mobile data and back to Wi-Fi and try again. Some VPNs automatically start with network traffic even after they have been turned off in the Settings. Double-check for the VPN symbol in the top bar of the device.
Network request failed: SSL error
- Common causes:
- Bad data connection
- Port 443 is blocked - check the router, firewall or antivirus. Port 443 may be blocked as the result of a rule that only ‘allows’ traffic on port 80.
Solution
Ensure that there is an active internet connection, that Port 443 is unblocked, then try again. Try a different device if there is still no connection.

Solution
If mobile data and/or Wi-Fi is off in the mobile device, enable both settings.
