Blink Wired Floodlight Camera Mount Troubleshooting

If your Blink Wired Floodlight Camera Mount is offline or if you encounter any issues during setup, proceed with the troubleshooting steps outlined below:

General troubleshooting

I'm not comfortable with electrical wiring

  • Do not attempt the installation. Incorrect wiring can cause electric shock, personal injury, fire, or damage to the device.
  • Contact a licensed electrician to complete the installation.
  • After the physical installation is complete, use the setup guide to pair your device in the Blink app.

Power issues

WARNING: Electrical Shock Hazard: Turn off power at the breaker before handling any wiring. Failure to do so could result in electrical shock or serious injury. If you are uncomfortable with this process, please consult a licensed professional.

You might have a power issue if you notice any of the following:

  • Your mount doesn't power on after restoring the circuit breaker.
  • The camera LED does not display the expected solid green followed by a blinking blue pattern.
  • No lights appear on the mount at all.

To resolve this:

  1. Turn off power at the breaker before inspecting the wiring.
  2. Check your wiring connections (see Wiring section below).
  3. Verify the breaker has fully reset (flip to OFF, then back to ON).
  4. Inspect for any visible damage to the wiring or mount.
  5. If the camera LED is solid red or flashing red, reset the camera directly by pressing and holding the reset button on the camera for 10 seconds.
  6. Wait up to 60 seconds after restoring power for the LED sequence to initialize.
  7. Contact Blink Support if the issue persists.

What happens during a power outage?

If power is lost to the floodlight, the camera also loses power, since it's powered through the USB-C connection. The camera will appear offline in the app. Once power is restored, both the floodlight and camera will come back online automatically.

Wiring

If your Wired Floodlight Camera Mount isn't powering on after hardwiring, the wire connections may not be properly secured or the wires may not match the expected colors.

To check your connections:

  1. Turn off power at the breaker before inspecting the wiring.
  2. Verify that all wire nut connections (US) or terminal block connections (EU) are fully secured.
  3. Pull gently on each wire to confirm it is locked in place.
  4. Double-check each wire is connected to the correct corresponding wire by referring to the color reference below.

US wire color reference:

Typical Wire Color Wire Type Connect To
Black Hot (Live) Live wire from junction box
White Neutral Neutral wire from junction box
Green or Bare Copper Ground Ground copper wire from junction box

EU wire color reference:

Typical Wire Color Wire Type Connect To
Brown Live (Hot) Live terminal in terminal block
Blue Neutral Neutral terminal in terminal block
Yellow-Green Ground (Earth) Ground/Earth terminal in terminal block

My wires don't match the expected colors

  • Important: Stop the installation immediately. Do not connect any wires.
  • Consult a licensed professional to correctly identify each wire before proceeding.
  • Non-standard wire colors may be present in older homes or certain regions. A professional can confirm wire function using a multimeter.

Mounting and installation

Mounting plate does not align with the junction box

  • Confirm you have a 4-inch round UL-listed weatherproof junction box (US) or appropriate hardwired connection point (EU).
  • Do not force the mounting plate. Using an incompatible junction box can result in an insecure installation.
  • Contact Blink Support if your existing junction box is not compatible.
Delete

The mount feels loose or unstable

  • Confirm you're using the correct screws for your junction box type (refer to the screw selection guide in the installation article).
  • Ensure the metal mounting bracket is secured across two opposing holes on the junction box (US) or with both screws and anchors (EU).
  • Do not over-tighten, which can strip the screw holes.
  • If the junction box itself is loose, contact a licensed professional.

Water is getting behind the mount

  • Apply outdoor silicone sealant (not included) between the light fixture base and the wall to create a weatherproof seal.
  • Verify the silicone plug is inserted into the screw hole.
  • Check that the mount is flush against the wall or junction box with no visible gaps.
  • If water continues to enter, contact a licensed professional.

Lighting issues

My floodlight lights won't turn on

  1. Confirm power is restored at the breaker and the mount's LED shows solid green.
  2. Check that the USB-C cable is securely connected between the floodlight and camera (the camera controls the lights).
  3. Open the Blink app and verify that light activation is enabled in Camera Settings > Lighting Settings.
  4. If using motion-activated lights, confirm it's dark enough to trigger (lights only activate at night by default).
  5. Try turning the lights on manually from Live View or the Home Screen in the Blink app.
  6. Contact Blink Support if the issue persists.

My lights turn on during the day

  • Motion-activated lights are designed to turn on only when it's dark (enabled by default).
  • If your lights are activating during the day, check your Daytime Light Activation setting in Camera Settings. The sensitivity level may need to be lowered.
Delete

My lights won't turn off

  • If set to "Until I turn off" after a manual trigger, the lights will stay on until you turn them off in the app.
  • Check your auto shutoff setting in Camera Settings > Lighting Settings and adjust the timer.
  • Try toggling the lights off manually from the Blink app or your light switch.
Delete

The floodlight brightness seems low

  • Check your brightness setting in Camera Settings > Lighting Settings. The default is 9 on a 1-10 scale.
  • Ensure the light head lenses are clean and free of debris.
  • If using a Dusk-to-Dawn schedule, the brightness matches your selected level and is not separately adjustable.

Camera and floodlight connection

The app shows light controls are grayed out

This means the camera is not communicating with the floodlight.

  1. Check that the USB-C cable is firmly connected to both the camera and the mount.
  2. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the USB-C cable.
  3. Restart the camera by pressing the reset button for 5 seconds.
  4. Contact Blink Support if the controls remain grayed out.
Delete

The siren won't activate

  • The siren can only be activated from Live View or the Home Screen in the Blink app.
  • Confirm the camera is connected to the floodlight via USB-C (the siren requires an active connection).
  • Check that your Blink app is up to date.
  • If the siren button is not visible, try force-closing and reopening the app.
Delete

I can't use two-way talk while the siren is active

This is expected. Two-way talk is not available while the siren is sounding. The siren automatically turns off after 30 seconds, after which two-way talk will be available again.

What happens if the camera is disconnected from the Wired Floodlight Camera Mount?

If the camera is physically disconnected but the floodlight still has power, the device works as a basic floodlight that can only be turned on or off using your light switch. In the Blink app, light controls will appear grayed out, and you'll receive a notification that the floodlight is no longer connected, along with troubleshooting tips.

Alexa isn't controlling my floodlight lights

  • Confirm the Wired Floodlight Camera Mount is set up and online in the Blink app.
  • Verify the Blink SmartHome skill is enabled in the Alexa app.
  • Try saying "Alexa, discover my devices" to refresh the device list.
  • Check that you're using the correct device name (e.g., "Alexa, turn on [device name] light").
