Extended Range Troubleshooting

When using multiple Sync Module XR+ or Sync Module XR units, place each one in a separate room with at least one wall between them to avoid interference from other Sync Modules.

If you experience difficulties selecting or switching the network coverage type for your Outdoor 4 camera, check that:

  • The camera is at least 4 feet (1.20 m) away from the Sync Module XR+ or Sync Module XR.
  • The camera is within 100 feet (30 m) of your Wi-Fi network.

If the camera is further than 100 feet (30 m) from your Wi-Fi network, temporarily move it closer and attempt to select the network coverage type again.

To select your camera’s network coverage type:

  1. In the Blink app, from the Home screen, tap the More (...) button   in the lower-right corner of the camera's thumbnail image.
  2. Tap Device Settings .
  3. Tap General Settings .
  4. Under Network, select Camera Network .
  5. From the Network Selection screen, choose either Wi-Fi , Extended Range (XR) or Extended Range Plus (XR+) , then tap Save.
    • If using Extended Range on more than one camera, all cameras must use the same network coverage type (Extended Range (XR) or Extended Range Plus (XR+)). For information on switching your camera’s network coverage type, visit Switching Network Coverage Type for Outdoor 4 Cameras .

If you’re still experiencing difficulties selecting your camera’s network coverage type, delete the camera from your system and readd it. During setup , you’ll be prompted to select the network coverage type for the camera again.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Extended Range?

Extended Range is a network coverage option available exclusively for Outdoor 4 cameras when connected to a Sync Module XR+ or Sync Module XR. It allows your cameras to communicate with the Sync Module at greater distances than standard Wi-Fi.

When using Extended Range, all cameras must use the same network coverage type (either Extended Range (XR) or Extended Range Plus (XR+)). You can connect up to 10 Outdoor 4 cameras using Extended Range at the same time per Sync Module. Up to two Sync Modules can be configured to use Extended Range per account, allowing for a total of 20 Outdoor 4 cameras using Extended Range. Once this limit has been reached, Extended Range cannot be selected for additional Sync Modules or cameras. Learn more about Extended Range .

Can I use a combination of Extended Range (XR) and Extended Range Plus (XR+) network coverage types for my Outdoor 4 cameras?

You cannot mix Extended Range (XR) and Extended Range Plus (XR+) network coverage types for your Outdoor 4 cameras on the same Sync Module XR+ or Sync Module XR. If you’re using Extended Range on more than one camera, all cameras must be of the same network coverage type, either Extended Range (XR) or Extended Range Plus (XR+).

However, you can use different Extended Range types if you have multiple Sync Modules. For example, cameras on one Sync Module could use Extended Range (XR) while cameras on another use Extended Range Plus (XR+). A maximum of two Sync Module XR+ and Sync Module XRs can use Extended Range at the same time per account.
